Suggested Union Itineraries

Choose a day that fits your interests, then adjust it to confirmed openings and your group’s pace. These are flexible editorial itineraries, not guided tours, marked trails, or verified driving-time estimates.

Half a day: meet Union

Start with the courthouse area and the historic streets around it. Read the town’s history first so the buildings have context. Look at exteriors from public areas, pause at interpretation where available, and choose shops you would like to visit.

Make a local meal your second anchor. Call ahead if your plans depend on a particular restaurant, then leave time for one more shop or an exterior history stop. This is a good first-visit format when you want an introduction without a long list of destinations.

A full day for history lovers

Morning: explore Union’s historic district at your own pace. Notice the contrast between government, commercial, residential, and religious buildings. Add a historical-society museum visit only after confirming it will be open.

Midday: take a meal break in town. Afternoon: visit Old Rehoboth Church and Museum if a tour has been arranged or current opening confirmed. If it is unavailable, substitute another confirmed stop rather than assuming a historic property can be entered.

A day outdoors

Make Moncove Lake State Park the main outing. Choose a trail or a picnic-centered visit that suits your group. Verify any seasonal activity you intend to use, including boat rentals or swimming facilities. Allow time for the park instead of trying to combine it with several separate destinations.

Use Union as a meal or shopping stop on the way to or from the park if the route and opening hours fit. Bring food if a picnic is central to the day, and keep the itinerary flexible if weather changes.

A shopping-and-countryside day

Start with Union shops, then choose one separate countryside stop such as Cook’s Old Mill after confirming visiting arrangements. This plan is about browsing and noticing the landscape, not covering the largest possible distance. Avoid routing through multiple rural communities without first checking a map.

A relaxed weekend

Arrival day: settle into your lodging and keep dinner simple. First full day: combine Union’s streets, shops, and history with one prearranged heritage visit. Second day: choose the lake or another confirmed outdoor destination, with an early alternative if weather changes.

If you are staying outside Union, plan from your accommodation’s actual location. A property’s Union mailing address does not necessarily mean it is downtown or within walking distance of shops.

Customize the plan

For young children, choose fewer stops and leave time for breaks. For an accessibility-focused visit, ask each venue about entrances, surfaces, parking, and restrooms before committing. For photographers, distinguish public viewpoints from private grounds and ask before entering.

Stops that need extra checking

Hanging Rock’s observatory platform was the subject of a Forest Service closure announcement. We have not verified an authoritative reopening notice, so the tower is not included as a confirmed accessible stop in these plans.

Your final planning check

Confirm openings, reserve required visits, check the weather, save maps, and keep organizer or venue phone numbers handy. Build around one or two priorities per day and let the remaining time stay flexible.
